Something About Positive Affirmations


Positive affirmations are a very useful way to train our minds to think positively and to attract to our lives those conditions, people and circumstances that we want.

There are two main reasons why it is important to use affirmations in a positive way:

  • When you create a negative statement you need to think of something you do NOT want and then you have to 'cancel' the thought - which has already left an impression on you. Not only is that much more work than simply creating a positive statement, it also has a different effect on how you feel. Compare how you feel when you think 'I do not want to be fat' as opposed to 'I want to be thin'.

  • You attract equally what you want and what you do not want (find out more about the Law of Attraction). Your nightmares can also become true, if you focus on them from a stand of 'I do not want that to happen'.

Shifting from the negative

You can use positive affirmations to help you deal with feelings of worry or anxiety. The steps are simple:

  1. Acknowledge the anxiety or worry you feel.

  2. Identify what is causing those feelings (for instance, a job interview).

  3. Stop the almost automatic stream of negative thoughts on the spot (the 'I will do terrible', 'I never know what to say' kind of thoughts).

  4. Replace them with a positive statement ('I will be calm and collected', 'I will always find the right thing to say').

The good news is that with a little bit of practice positive thinking becomes almost as automatic as negative thinking once was, and it replaces it. You can steadily build a positive attitude and acquire a positive outlook on life when you shift to positive thinking consistently.
