When I first came across positive thinking I was so motivated by all the new ideas that I found (affirmations, visualization, practicing gratitude...) that I thought, "Right, here I have all the tools I need; my life is sorted".
Of course I wasn't oblivious to the fact that I would encounter many obstacles in my life, but I thought that, generally speaking, I would be able to go through all of them with no problems, with the help of positive thinking.
However, as I found very soon, no one tool sorts all the difficulties you come across.

Sometimes the 'obstacles' in life are due to actual experiences, like when someone close to you dies. Death will likely make you question life in a way you've never done before.
At other times, the obstacles are just simply our thoughts and emotions, and the particular way they come up under certain circumstances.
All in all, the obstacles of life are simply experiences that we may find unusually difficult to deal with. I believe that each of us encounters our 'tailor-made' challenges to grow, so I may find difficult to deal with something that you may find easy, and viceversa.
Sometimes positive thinking helps to deal with these obstacles in life, and sometimes we need to use different strategies to cope and go on.
