Overcoming Procrastination Is Easy!

Overcoming procrastination is one of the best things you can do to create positive changes in your life.

How many times have you written down a goal that you wanted to achieve - only to see days and months go by without you taking action?

There are many reasons why we procrastinate. For instance, a very common reason nowadays is that we think we don't have enough time.

So we write down in our to-do list or our diary 'learn to paint' (or whatever it may be) - but when it comes down to the day-to-day life we don't seem to have the time available to actually sit and learn to paint.

Another reason why we procrastinate is because we feel fear. This fear may fall into one of these two categories: we may have fear of failing to achieve what we want, or we may have fear of actually achieving it and being successful - because subconsciously we may not feel ready to accept success.

There are many other reasons why we procrastinate, but basically they all boil down to a story that we build in our heads through the thoughts and feelings we experience.

Key points to overcome procrastination

Overcoming procrastination simply comes down to using the techniques and the style to get things done that suit you best. Here are some of the key factors that you want to consider to help you overcome procrastination:

  • The place of work. Do you work best at home, in a café, in a library, outdoors...? Does it need to be a silent place or do you need background music?

  • Your best time. Do you find that you get things done easily in the morning? Do you prefer to work through the night?

  • Your style. Do you work best by focusing on one thing for a long period of time, or do you prefer to switch tasks often?

  • Support groups. Sometimes having a support group to which you can speak about your progress on your goal is helpful to find motivation and keep going.

  • The techniques. There are a number of techniques to get things done which you may find helpful depending on your particular style of work.

  • Your own thoughts. Do you tend to face what you have to do with an attitude of resistance? Do you build stories in your head to justify why it is difficult to get things done? You may then benefit from switching to positive thinking ;-)

The best way of overcoming procrastination is to find your own preferred style of work and to use the techniques that really help you. Experiment with different ways of getting things done so that you can find what works best for you.
