Positive Music

Hear me now! Positive music to uplift your soul

Do you have favourite tunes that make you feel good in an instant when you hear them, no matter your mood?

I bet you do - we all have our favourite music: songs that make our heart expand and our smile come out...

But why is it that we humans like music? Why do some songs seem to have an almost supernatural power to make us feel good?

There are two main key things which make us like a particular song: the rhythm of it and the actual tune. The sounds we hear through our ears are processed in our brain, in which pleasure centres are activated depending on things like the texture, harmony, melody, rhythm and colour of the song.

Rhythm is very important because it relates to movement and to the beating of our hearts. Certain music with a beat similar to the heartbeat of a relaxed person can make us feel relaxed.

Music has the power to touch our hearts in a second and make us feel good immediately - and that's why positive music is a cool toy to use if you want to feel more positive quickly.

Gather a list of your favorite tunes and keep it handy (I normally have a notepad file on my desktop with a list of songs I like, and as I come across more songs I add them to the list).

In this way if you find yourself feeling bad and want to get out of your mood you can just play any of those songs and get back to feeling good.

Positive music

We are all different and we all like different music, so a song that I may find fabulous you may find it hideous.

I don't assume you'll like the same music I do, but here's a small selection of some of the music that has the power to make me feel good, in case you want to check it out (mind you, I'm quite eclectic in my taste).

  • "Canon" by Pachelbel

  • "Nessum Dorma" by Puccini

  • "Fields of gold" by Sting

  • "Don't stop me now" by Queen

  • "Island in the sun" by Weezer

  • "No woman no cry" by Bob Marley

  • "All is full of love" by Bjork

  • "Better together" by Jack Johnson

  • "Georgia on my mind" by Ray Charles

  • "My baby just cares for me" by Nina Simone

  • "Can't take my eyes off from you" by Lauryn Hill

  • "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed (my favourite is the version made for BBC promotion)

  • "And your bird can sing" by The Beatles

  • "I just called to say I love you" by Stevie Wonder

As I once heard, talking about music is like dancing about architecture - so just do a search online to find your favourite positive music!

"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents."

Ludwig van Beethoven
